The devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday, April 25, 2015 has claimed the lives of at least 4,000 individuals. Rescue efforts are underway, but the continued aftershocks pose extreme challenges to relief work. According to the United Nations, over a million people may end up without shelter. We mourn the loss of life and hold the bereaved families in our thoughts.
In the aftermath of natural disasters, women and girls are disproportionately vulnerable to displacement and to human trafficking. Our frontline anti-trafficking partners, Maiti Nepal, in Kathmandu, and Apne Aap, whose main office in Bihar is located 14 km from Nepal, are among the first responders during this crisis, working to ensure that women and children remain safe and have shelter, food, medical supplies, and clothes during this extremely difficult time.
The need is urgent. Please make a contribution and support Maiti Nepal and Apne Aap today. We will ensure that your gift goes directly to these extraordinary grassroots organizations that are increasing their efforts to assist women and girls in Nepal and at the Indian-Nepal border. Your gift will make an immediate difference during this time of critical need.
