In January 2026, CATW was honored to co-host a virtual roundtable event, From Colonial Times to Today: Sex Trade Survivors Draw Maps of Resistance and Action, with SPACE International, featuring sex trade survivor leaders from Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and Venezuela.
Survivor leaders Graciela Collantes (Director, AMADH, Argentina), Nora Esther Irequi Corpas (Mujeres Sobrevivientes del Caribe, Venezuela and Colombia), and Claudia Yurley Quintero Rolón (Director, Fundación Empodérame, Colombia) joined CATW’s Executive Director Taina Bien-Aimé for a powerful discussion on the survivor-led movement in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, with a focus on the colonial roots of the sex trade and how specific structural inequalities have shaped current systems of prostitution, sex trafficking, and sexual exploitation.
The speakers explored the ways in which sex, race, and ethnic discrimination still impact their lives today and how innovative grassroots campaigns are ensuring that survivors’ voices move from the margins to the center of decision-making policies to secure justice and equality for the most vulnerable women and girls.
